It’s finally that time of year! New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2020 has kicked off in style, with day one on February 6. This time, Christian Siriano stole the show with his Harley Quinn and ‘Birds of Prey’ movie-inspired looks. Here’s what we loved about the first big show of NYFW 2020.
Full of drama
Christian Siriano was keen to inject as much drama as possible into his runway show, which was one of the first for New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2020. Taking cinematic-inspiration from the new DC movie ‘Birds of Prey,’ the models took to the runway in flashes of hot pink, Joker-jacquard, and Harley Quinn rainbows. On top of this, there was plenty of heavy metal glamour that captured the audience’s attention.
Christian Siriano was keen to tell the world about his inspiration, as his show notes went to prove. He explained he took the idea of “Harley Quinn running through a dark abandoned carnival funhouse,” to come up with many of the pieces for his runway show. On top of that, he explained he also found himself turning to the “Dadaism art movement” for ideas of the form and expression.
New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2020
While Siriano may have kicked off NYFW in style, his collection certainly won’t be the most talked about over the next seven days. We’re expecting to see some big looks from established designers and a few new kids on the block too. Sustainability is also thought to be a critical issue that will come up this year.
It’s one of our favorite times of the year, and we’re excited to see what else NYFW brings us before we fly over the pond to London for the next installment of runway shows. Who will be the most talked-about designer this season? Only time will tell!
